The Team: 2020

This is how I expect a game day lineup to look like if the season were to open tomorrow: The Starting Quarterback: Joe Milton The Backup: Cade McNamara The Opinion: I do like the talent here even if it looks a little thin with McCaffrey now gone. Milton has truly elite measurables but nobody knows if he is a gamer or not yet. If not, McNamara might actually be up to the challenge of being the starter. From what I am hearing, he is really giving Milton a push for the job. I do like the coaching decision to go with Milton as the guy in an attempt to make it his offense. As fans, we need to finally see what Harbaugh and company have been doing behind the scenes with a kid he originally recruited and signed to play at Michigan. And it's no secret that all eyes will be on whoever is the first ever truly program-developed quarterback to start a season under this regime. A lot of fans don't seem optimistic but there isn't much to lose by taking a risk in a season that will for...

Michigan Football Schedule and Predictions

@ Minnesota  Minnesota scored over 30 points per game last season and quarterback Tanner Morgan is one of the best passers returning for 2020. However, The Golden Gophers lose one of their top pass catchers and their top rusher. That is a lot of production lost.  They do get Rashod Bateman back, and there might only be one or two players in the Michigan secondary that has a shot at covering him one on one. The Gophers also have lost six of their top eight tacklers from last year, as well as their top two pass-rushers. Antoine Winfield Jr. was their best overall player and he has two sacks in three games for Tampa Bay at the moment. Michigan returns a strong front seven on defense and the safeties should be very good too. The corners could be the achilles heel in this game. Your call is as good as mine in this one.  UM 28 - UM 24 Michigan State Sparty comes to Ann Arbor for a week two matchup in hopes of stopping Harbaugh from improving to 4-2 against them. They lose...

Projected 2020 Depth Chart (once it begins)

Quarterbacks 1.  Joe Milton **** (Jr) 2. Dylan McCaffrey **** (Sr) 3. Cade McNamara **** (So) 4. Dan Villari *** (Fr) This is the most important position battle on the team. No doubt. Everybody knows this. And from all the sources that I can find it sounds like Joe Milton is winning the job. It was no secret that he has a loaded arm and some decent athleticism for a pro-style QB. While he doesn't have the wheels that McCaffrey, he can make every throw in the book. McCaffrey will probably still get some playing time because of his unique abilities as an athlete, but I just don't see him having the arm to be a great QB1. I could even see him switching positions or transferring next year. McNamara is quietly working his way up the depth chart and he could end up being the best passer of the bunch some day.  Confidence Rating: 7/10 Running Backs 1.  Zach Charbonnet ***** (So) 2.  Hassan Haskins *** (Jr)  3.  Chris Evans**** (5th) 4.  Blake C...

What could a two month season look like?

Ideal Michigan 8 Game Spring Schedule: Week 1: @ Minnesota - This will be the first road test for the team right off the bat. And while the Golden Gophers are no juggernaut, they do have an upstart coach in P.J. Fleck and an above average level of talent for their respective program. They could be very dangerous after going 11-2 last year, though the idea of no crowds realistically makes it a less daunting of a task. The Wolverines should be bringing the Little Brown Jug back to AA by a touchdown.  Week 2: Vs. Penn State - The first of the big division rivals comes to AA in week two. The Nittany Lions are always dangerous. It is hard to say what their team could actually look like in the spring but they always have top talent on board and James Franklin seems like a good fit as coach there. I think the Wolverines would be out for blood in this one after last year's loss, but it's hard to say what will occur without a crowd to back you up at home. This one is anybody's guess...

NFL Draft Fun

First of all, congrats to all 10 of the Wolverines who got drafted or signed on NFL teams free agents. Best of luck to you in the NFL. You are helping Jim Harbuagh realize his goal that he clearly spelled out for everybody five years ago. Notable Draft Classes: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Look, the Bucs had one glaring weakness in their starting lineup at right tackle. In a twist of fate, Iowa offensive tackle  Tristin Wirfs , who was arguably the best overall line prospect in the entire draft, slipped all the way down to #13. The Bucs couldn't even wait any longer and negotiated the swapping of a fourth round pick for a seventh to move up and bag him. He should help shore up what should be a very good line that can help move the chains in the run game and help take pressure off Brady. They probably won't be asked to pass block for very long as Brady loves the short to intermediate game, so expect sacks and turnovers to go down even if the team doesn't throw for 5,000 yards ...

2020 Pre-Spring Competitive Depth Chart

QB - 1a. Dylan McCaffrey 1b. Joe Milton 1c. Cade McNamara Despite what anybody says outside the program, this job is completely up for grabs. All three top guys were talented high school football players and all three have a full year in Josh Gattis' offense under their belts. Most fans seem to be leaning towards giving Milton a chance while the media seems to be giving the edge to McCaffrey. Both are good athletes with loads of potential, but neither one might be as talented of a passer as McNamara, who is the youngest of all three. He actually passed for more yards in high school than the other two guys combined. Any way you dice it, the competitive fire should be high from everybody involved here all off-season. Having one guy emerge, no matter who it is, would be preferable going into fall camp though. RB - 1. Zach Charbonnet 2. Hassan Haskins 3a. Chris Evans 3b. Christian Turner 3c. Blake Corum* It really is Charbonnet's starting position to lose. He is just too big,...
