  • Top Choice: Jim Harbaugh - Until he definitively says no I can't take him off this list. Personally, I am not completely sold on him as a long-term answer for the program, but lord knows every other UM fan and their brother have him as their favorite. Hell, even Lloyd Carr publicly announced that the former Wolverine QB was his favorite too. I believe he is the most interesting of the candidates (outside of Tressel), but I really don't see him in Ann Arbor...ever!
  • Extreme Longshot: Jim Tressel - Hey, why not?! I know this is a near impossibility to happen but if it did it would instantly upgrade THE Rivalry and restore some order within the football program. Let's face it, there will be no Harbaughs coaching in Ann Arbor next year and there is no clear-cut favorite to win the job as of late. A Tressel hire is almost as likely to happen as anything, particularly when you factor in what's at stake for the program. The big things keeping it from truly being a reality is that the former Buckeye coach is still under NCAA sanctions through 2016 and is only several months deep into his new job as the President of Youngstown State University. 
  • Secret Candidate: Bret Bielema - Bielema fielded a fairly competitive Arkansas team in the ridiculously tough SEC West this year. Not sure he would want to come back to the Big Ten after only two full seasons down south, but the Michigan job would probably be the one to lure him back. He possesses everything the program would want in a new skipper.
  • The Safety: Greg Schiano - Schiano looks like a good fit and probably represents the guy most-likely to take the job if it were offered to him. At the very least, he is a very good backup plan that would continue to instill discipline into the program. He has always shown loyalty to his guys. Just look at how many of his former Rutgers players were on the Bucs' roster. That kind of loyalty goes a long way with kids at the high school and college level.

    Basketball Update

    My quick opinion on this Michigan Men's basketball team hasn't changed much. That loss at Northwestern is what it is: a talented home team with a fired up crowd going toe-to-toe with a hot but streaky Wolverine team in the middle of a tough stretch to wrap up the season. Good on the Wildcats for playing a tough game and making the play of the year at the end. Way to go! Now let's focus on Nebraska! We will know more about this team in the coming weeks. The Big Ten tournament will be very interesting. If Michigan gets hot they could make a couple runs like they did last year. No doubt. One player that I'd like to point out right away is freshman point guard Xavier Simpson. If he continues to rise the way that he has been over the last few weeks then this team could become a real threat to make a run for the Final Four. And yes, I do mean that. Why not? A team with great depth can stay more fresh during March Madness, and there are plenty of rising stars on this roste...

    Mark My Words!: Annual Dose of Preseason Predictions from a Very Optimistic Michigan Fan

    As the 2014 season gets set to unfold I've got a slew of bold statements, biased outlooks, and straight-up facts that should help in getting any Wolverine fan excited. Yes, I do believe it pays to be positive, even if I've been proven wrong more times than not as of late. This year will be different, mark my words! Anyway, here are some things to think about as the season approaches: Facts: 80% of the roster last season was made up of first and second year players who will now be true sophomores, true juniors, and redshirt freshmen. At least 18 freshmen got significant playing time in 2013, with several collecting a few starts and three making the conference's All-Freshman Team (Kalis, Butt, and Henry). There are more four and five-star former recruits on the roster now than there has been since 2007.     Getting Ready for Sparty

    Quick Note: I've held radio silence on this blog for most of this season. Partly because I am too busy to share my thoughts in blog form. Also, partly because I like where things have been going and wanted to see it play out a bit more before offering anything. Let's face it, the opener against Notre Dame was meaningless, as were the two games that followed. They were all tuneup games. We always knew it would come down to the division record in the end. It always does. So here we are: Michigan is currently undefeated in the Big Ten Conference with a 4-0 record. The team currently ranks third in the B1G in scoring offense (38pts/gm) and number one in scoring defense (15.4pts/gm). As they prepare to take on the Spartans, the Wolverines rank #6 in the AP Poll and #7 in the Coaches Poll. Michigan State has two losses on it's record already, including one to Northwestern, earning them a 3-1 record in the B1G. They pulled off an upset over Penn State last week and possess the...
