A Quick Look at Michigan's Top Prospects for 2019
Harbaugh and his staff are off to a great start for the 2019 cycle. With only four commits on board, it still puts them firmly in the Top 10 and average star rating of 86.25. That is extremely high. Overall, 2019 seems like a stronger year than 2018 in regards to quality of players available at the top. There wasn't a single 5-Star that I was completely enamored with this past year.
Yeah, it hurts to lose out on a few top prospects to Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia... but it's OSU, 'Bama, and the Dawgs! Everybody is losing out on recruits to them right now. Michigan actually flipped some interesting prospects from Georgia Tech (DE Julius Welschof), Iowa (FB Ben VanSumeren), and Florida (Taylor Upshaw). All three guys have flashed the 5-Star athleticism, but they have either played against inferior competition or have very little experience playing the game at all.
At any rate, there is a lot of time ahead. A lot will happen in the next 12 months. Michigan will surely win some and lose some to other top programs out there. And I am just as sure they will flip a couple of their own too. That is recruiting. It's not for the thin-skinned.
The Committed:
DL Chris Hinton 5-Star 6'4"/260lbs (Norcross, GA) Grade: 92
DE Stephon Herron Jr. 4-Star 6'4"/230lbs (Louisville, KY) Grade: 87
OG Nolan Rumler 4-Star 6'4"/290lbs (Akron, OH) Grade: 85
LB Charles Thomas 4-Star LB 6'0"/220lbs (IMG Academy) Grade: 81
Hot Prospects:
The highlighted players are prospects that are already committed to or are current favorites to commit to the program soon. Their respective recruitment by Michigan has sped up and a strong relationship has seemingly blossomed. Just keep your eyes on them over the next few months.
QB Michael Johnson Jr 4-Star (Eugene, OR) Grade: 84
QB Sam Johnson 3-Star (Walled Lake, MI) Grade: 76
RB Quavaris Crouch 5-Star (Charlotte, NC) Grade: 93
WR Marcus Washington 4-Star (Saint Louis, MO) Grade: 87
