Projecting the New Look Defense

-
Base Defense:  +/- 40% of defensive plays will be run out of some sort of "50" or 3-4-type of formation with a few different subs in play at a couple positions, particularly along the front line. A lot of guys will get the chance to rotate in so I included all the guys that I think can contribute in some fashion this season. The positions where only one guy is listed means that they will rarely, if ever, leave the field. They should be team leaders who won't be really challenged for their jobs at the top and they look like future NFL draft picks. Edge: Aiden Hutchinson - A potential  First Team All-Big Ten player and a first round draft pick next spring. He should flourish in the new system. DL: Christopher Hinton - Could this former 5-Star recruit finally have a breakout year under the new defensive coaching staff?  NT: Mazi Smith/Jordan Whittley - Loads of potential between Smith and Whittley but both also have a lot to prove.  DL: Donovan Jeter/Julius Welschof ...

2020 Recruiting Class Among the Top in the Nation (whether you believe it or not).

-
Jim Harbaugh and his Michigan coaching staff are wrapping things up for the 2020 recruiting class to mixed reviews. It's hard to argue against the talent they did acquire, but most detractors point to the lack of 5-Stars and the few big whiffs on top recruits to end the cycle. The simple fact of the matter is that it is another class by Harbaugh that ranks among the top 10% of college programs. In other words, with a 12th ranked rectuiting class, they were still better than 118 of the other 129 teams out there. Anyway I look at it, it still amazes me how people can be upset about it. Yes, it is true that they are not landing the big-time top-heavy classes that Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson continue to land, but that is okay. It has to be okay because that's just not where the Wolverines are at right now. It is still a lot better than most though. And just ask Texas, UCLA, Tennessee, USC, and Nebraska fans how they would feel about the prospect of playing the Crimson Tide...

The State Line: Offensive Match Up with Sparty with Projections

-
Okay, let's not beat around the bush here. Michigan has one mission this week, and that is to completely destroy Sparty on the field. And by destroy, I mean that they have to obliterate the 25 point spread by another 20 points. Send a message to East Lansing and take full control of this rivalry once again. Harbaugh already has the 3-2 advantage. Going 4-2 with a true beat down would solidify the fact that things are indeed still heading in the right direction in Ann Arbor (but not so much in East Lansing).  So, without further adieu, let's set some goals for each positional group for this game... Quarterback: Joe Milton - I saw some early signs on Saturday that this is becoming Milton's team. Not only did he take command of the offense, but the senior players rallied around him and the entire team competed extremely hard. There is actually some real veteran leadership on a team that lost a ton of production from a year ago. The offense definitely now resembles more of what...
