Recruiting Notes - 6/26/2014

It's been a good summer on the recruiting trail for the Wolverines' football team. With five big commitments occurring since early April, both the 2015 and 2016 classes are growing. QB Alex Malzone, LB Darrin Kirkland, OT Grant Newsome, and TE Chris Clark are all collectively adding a lot of talent to the 2015 class, while QB Messiah DeWeaver adds his rising stock to the 2016 class. Some other big names should be announcing their commitments soon as well, and Michigan could land one or two key names. Look for some more additions as the school year gets underway.
RB Johnny Frasier (Princeton, NC)

One of the fastest rising prospects in the last few months, RB Johnny Frasier (Princeton, NC), apparently wants to visit Ann Arbor and thinks Michigan could be a good fit for him. This could turn out to be one of the more interesting stories of this recruiting cycle, especially if he commits to the Wolverines. He has literally come out of obscurity in the state of North Carolina to being considered one of the best overall running back prospects in the country. Michigan was the first team out of North Carolina and the SEC to offer him, and rumor has it that he is very much intrigued by Michigan's academic program and football traditions. Only Duke, North Carolina, NC State, and Georgia had offered him beforehand.

Another North Carolina product, DL Darian Roseboro (Lincolnton, NC), is apparently getting a lot of attention from the Michigan coaches lately. The team really needs to add some commits along the defensive line, especially at end. Roseboro seems to fit the mold of a strong-side end/tackle prospect that the team covets. He would help make up for missing out on DeShawn Hand last year. Roseboro visited Michigan in April and plans on making a decision before the end of September.

Wharton (Tampa, FL) three-star WR prospect Auden Tate has been rising up Michigan's wish list as well. He will officially visit Ann Arbor for the Barbecue in The Big House recruiting event in July, and is planning on making a decision soon after that. At 6'4", 195 lbs, Tate has the size and raw skills to be coached into an all-league performer.

Top Ten Wish List for 2015:

  1. DE Keisean Lucier-South (6'5" 225 lbs) - The Orange, CA product is high on the Wolverines and would be the best weak-side end recruit added to the D-line since Brandon Graham.
  2. CB Iman Marshall (6'1" 190 lbs) - Could team up with Jabrill Peppers to give the team the most athletic pair of cornerbacks in college football.
  3. OLB Justin Hilliard (6'2" 230 lbs) - A top talent at the position would be a nice steal out of the state of Ohio.
  4. DE Terry Beckner Jr (6'4" 290 lbs) - Is just as coveted as Lucier-South but for different reasons. Beckner Jr is a strong-side end with loads of potential.
  5. DE Darian Roseboro (6'3" 290 lbs) - The team would love to add another big end prospect on the strong-side and Roseboro might be the best fit there overall.
  6. RB Jacques Patrick (6'2" 230 lbs) - You've got to love this kid's size and talent. The fact that he plays in the talent-rich state of Florida puts him high above most of the other top running back prospects.
  7. RB Damien Harris (5'11" 205 lbs) - The former Michigan commit is still warm on the Wolverines, but I'm not as high on him as a prospect as I was at this time last year. More or less, I just question the level of talent he is competing against in high school.
  8. CB Kendall Sheffield (5'11" 180 lbs) - Another elite corner prospect that would be a great get out of Texas.
  9. RB Mike Weber (5'10" 205 lbs) - An in-state prospect that is probably either going to school in Ann Arbor or East Lansing.
  10. RB Johnny Frasier (5'11" 200 lbs) - Would add a ton of speed to the backfield depth and a team-first attitude in the lockerroom.
