A Message to Fair-Weather Fans

As I peruse the comments following any recent UM football-related articles or social media sites, all I see are a bunch of fair-weather fans that don't have an ounce of gumption between them. If you don't think UM has even a remote chance of competing against Michigan State then do the team a favor and go jump ship. Maybe the Spartans or the Buckeyes will want you, but the Maize and Blue doesn't need you!

Say what you want, but I believe the reality of the situation is a lot different than your perceived one. The truth is that UM's defense, which will be the best the Spartans have faced when they meet up next Saturday, is good enough to at least keep it close, and I am willing to bet my right eye that we won't see another negative-yard rushing performance like the one we witnessed last year.

As for Gardner, I am completely comfortable with him starting the game and I believe he will be ready. If the O-line, which is the biggest question mark at this point due to youth, takes advantage of the bye week and gets their game together it could be just enough to help the offense put up the points that will be needed to win. It is only a matter of time before they get things rolling and maybe, just maybe, that time will be now.

The two key stats that have killed this team this year have been the turnover margin and sacks allowed. That is no mystery, and it has been just enough to make those four losses look worse than they actually were. Do not be deceived. The Wolverines are better than that and do not be surprised if the team finishes strong.

Sure, there is not doubt that State is THE team to beat in the Big Ten at the moment, but points can be racked up on them, ad Oregon and Purdue (105th ranked offense) have shown us. The two best teams that Sparty has faced are the Ducks and Nebraska, and they are 1-1 in those games. Meanwhile, a young Michigan team has gotten thumped by teams in Notre Dame (6-0), Utah (4-1), Minnesota (5-1), and Rutgers (5-1) that were all underrated at the time. The Irish have gone on to beat Stanford and Utah has since knocked off UCLA as well.

The point is that any team can be beat on any given day and that is why they play the game. It is not a game for the faint of heart, so spare me your dose of "realism". All you jean-short wearing panty-waste fans should go find your spines and ride 'em out of here. Wolverine Nation is better off without you.

Go Blue!!!
