Top Five Luxuries on the Wolverine's 2015 Roster

A true luxury is an asset that creates great comfort and is naturally characterized by abundance and excess. In regards to the depth chart, a luxury would be a player that is not actually considered a starter, but is an active player in the two-deep who provides superb depth and starting capability from a backup position. These guys all have some starting experience and could probably be a true starter for most other football programs in the country. However, as luck would have it for us Wolverine fans, they are here to help make everybody breath easier, particularly in the fourth quarter when some fresh legs at a key position could seal the deal on a "W".

5. LB Desmond Morgan - Morgan is luxury to have because 2014 was suppose to be his final year, before he suffered an injury and received a medical redshirt. Now he has a fifth year of eligibility to use and Wolverine Nation could not be happier. He is one of the most experienced defenders on the team, having started since he was a true freshman on Brady Hoke's Sugar Bowl-winning team. He will help make the loss of Jake Ryan's leadership a little bit easier to overcome. At the very least, he adds tremendous depth to what should be a very good linebacking unit. Even if he doesn't start, Morgan could be among the top tacklers on the team.

4. DB Jeremy Clark - Clark started a handful of games at safety as a redshirt sophomore last year and played well enough. He is not projected to be a starter right now, but his size (6'2" 205 lbs) and experience will go a long way towards providing adequate depth in the secondary. He has some versatility too, so he could end up playing some corner if needed, but expect him to come in to play safety in sub-packages while starting safety Jabrill Peppers moves over to the nickel-backer spot. Clark will be a major player for the Wolverines as the season progresses, and he should be one of the first bodies off the bench if a starter has to miss some time.

3. RB Ty Isaac - After sitting out 2014 due to NCAA transfer rules, Isaac is set to compete for a starting position in Drevno's offense. He has the size (6'3", 225 lbs), speed (4.5 forty), and talent (5-Star prospect) to be a good one. Keep your eyes on him this summer. There were already three guys providing strong competition at the running back position, so Isaac's presence is indeed a luxury at this point. In the end though, Isaac could prove that all those other guys are the actual luxuries.

2. DE Taco Charlton - As one of the better athletes on the team who collected 3.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for a loss as a sophomore last season, one would think that Charlton would be a starter in his third year. While he is poised to have a good year in the Wolverine's two-deep D-line rotation, the starting jobs at end appear to be going to Chris Wormley and Mario Ojemudia. It doesn't matter though, as the coaches will find a way to utilize his skills and he will be among the team leaders in sacks and TFL's this fall. Charlton might actually find a home as a stand-up end in a 3-4 scheme. His size and athleticism could provide some intriguing play on the edge.

1. DT Bryan Mone - Starters Ryan Glasgow and Willie Henry are very good players in their own right, leading a defense that was 15th in the nation against the run. Mone, who did manage to start one game as a true freshman last year, is the top backup and he might be the best of the bunch. His combination of size (6'4" 330 lbs), strength, and skill is rare. He is a true luxury because he won't be counted on as a starter, yet he will be a BIG reason opposing running games will be shut down inside and forced to run horizontally. And with the speed this defense possesses on the back seven, it's hard to imagine many places for anybody to successfully go.
