Quick Note: I've held radio silence on this blog for most of this season. Partly because I am too busy to share my thoughts in blog form. Also, partly because I like where things have been going and wanted to see it play out a bit more before offering anything. Let's face it, the opener against Notre Dame was meaningless, as were the two games that followed. They were all tuneup games. We always knew it would come down to the division record in the end. It always does. So here we are: Michigan is currently undefeated in the Big Ten Conference with a 4-0 record. The team currently ranks third in the B1G in scoring offense (38pts/gm) and number one in scoring defense (15.4pts/gm). As they prepare to take on the Spartans, the Wolverines rank #6 in the AP Poll and #7 in the Coaches Poll. Spring Primer

Competition should be hot with several starting roles in question. The guys highlighted in red are my favorites to gain traction on the starting jobs this spring.  Offense Quarterback - McNamara will work to solidify his place as this team's number one quarterback going into 2021. Milton will look to be the top backup but he will get pressured by Villari and McCarthy. My guess is that if he doesn't redeem himself in 2021 he will transfer after the season. However, he is openly trying to be a leader and remain positive, and he didn't look like a complete trainwreck most of the time in 2020, so there is still some hope there as well. I just believe McNamara is, and always has been, the better QB prospect despite all differences in measurables.  Cade McNamara Joe Milton Dan Villari J.J. Outside Looking In?: Scholarship Candidates To Not Make the Final Cut

DE/LB Rueben Jones  (Sr) - One of the few players left from Harbaugh's first class in 2015 that only netted 14 players overall. Needless to say, Harbaugh was a little desperate to add depth with only a month to put a class together. Though Jones did have a couple other good offers, it's fair to say that Michigan reached a little bit here and settled for a guy that would have been much better off playing at FAU, USF, or UCF. And that's not an insult, as those are good programs too. But with all the talent that the Michigan staff has accumulated in the three classes that have followed, it has become a little crowded among the two-deep on the front seven of the defense. As I see it, Jones will need to have a monster showing on special teams in camp this summer in order to stay on the roster for the season.
